Billy O’Sullivan reckons he’s led a charmed life, and because of that, he’s now determined to give something back. Discovered by Hollywood at the tender age of four, Billy went on to act in hundreds of TV shows and commercials, before moving behind the camera as a successful writer, producer and director for 20 years. Billy then focused his entrepreneurial passion on the real estate, property and vacation business. It was when he and his wife Tiger* took up fastpacking and ultrarunning, that his real mission in life became apparent.
While competing in and training for 200+ mile ultramarathons like Moab 240 and Cocodona, Billy began thinking about food and world hunger. And, it was while experiencing the clear-headedness of fasting that he hit upon the idea of how what we don’t do, can sometimes have the most profound impact. This was when the Fast Forward>> movement was born. Billy is convinced that a rich, super-fat nation can help itself — and the world — by fasting and forwarding that food to those with none.“Nearly a decade after leaving Los Angeles, I still found myself looking only at more. More alcohol, more attention, more wild and late nights, more, more, more!“But standing on the beach in Kalalau on my 30th birthday, I had this memory of Dick Van Dyke teaching me how to tap dance. It was just he and I on a dark set holding hands and spinning around in circles. We could have been anywhere. There was no music, no tap shoes, just two people laughing and trying to dance together.“I yearned for less but what I didn't know at the time is that I had control of this type of less, and it was the amount of food I put in my body. I could have this feeling of simplicity at any time. Then or now.”*Tiger’s quite the name, huh? So, here’s the story of Tiger’s Christening. One day on Oahu while we were running a 24-hour ultra-race, she introduced herself to a fellow runner and the girl thought she said Thai-grr. Tiger.
The fellow runner replied: “Your name is Tiger?”
I looked at Hathaichanok (her real name) and laughed, “Yep, she’s the Tiger all right.”
And forevermore, that’s been her name. And she suits it.
